2. Fields of professional activity

Research, teaching, and consulting in the fields of economics, mathematics and computer sciences. My main areas of specialization in economics are international economics, development economics, and mathematical simulation models. In mathematics: differential equations, general systems theory, and algebraic geometry. In computer sciences: knowledge representation.

Currently Professor Emeritus of the University of Tsukuba, Deputy Director of the Program in Economic Public Policy of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Visiting Professor, Center for SustainableDevelopment, University of Brasilia, and Senior Researcher, Center for the Study ofMarket Regulation, University of Brasilia. My current areas of interest include thepolitical economy of development, regional economic integration, international tradetheory, and artificial economies.

3. Studies, degrees and scholarships.

I did graduate studies in mathematics and in economics at universities in Belgium (Louvain, 1966-7), France (Lille, 1966-8 and Paris, 1968-72) and the USA(Columbia, 1979-82). During that time I was recipient of scholarships from theGovernment of Belgium, the Ford Foundation, the Organization of American Statesand Columbia University.
